Golden Treasure We Share

In January 2009 our school decided to take part in a Comenius project together with four other countries: Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Turkey. The project centered on the topic of the Golden Ratio in Biology, IT, Mathematics, Arts. The Team consisted of: Balint Stefan (project manager) Jakab Irma Tunde (project coordinator), Kalman Attila Phd. Candidate (contact person), Kelemen Katalin, Jozsef Eva ( Biology), Szilagyi Emoke, Ignat Judit Anna ( Mathematics, Computer Sciences), Puskas Attila Phd.( Arts).

In June came the affirmative answer that all five countries could proceede with the project. Our project aims to study how a mathematical problem can appear in different fields of life. The teachers and students will be involved in different activities and share their experiences with participants from other partner countries. The project intends to discover our common cultural heritage and investigate its appearance in the countries' contemporary culture through an interdisciplinary approach. The project encourages students to have an overall view and make them discover the connections of different subjects. All fundamental competences will be developed, the subjects: Mathematics, Biology, Art and music are to focus on. Via group work activities students can broaden their knowledge of different cultures, improve their intercultural competence, create and reinforce the awareness of being European, belonging to the same community. They will use up-to-date IT devices, improve their communicational skills and the activities encourage them to learn and use foreign languages.

The project will also help teachers to exchange their methodological experiences and make them apply interdisciplinary approach during their everyday pedagogical work. Parents, local authorities, local and national organizations and the local media will cooperate in this project.

During the two years all the participants will organize meetings in order to encourage intercultural dialogue and foster a friendly atmosphere. The products of the project will be disseminated among the institutions, thus enhancing European awareness and dimension.

The first meeting was held in Kecskemet in October 2009, where the representatives of all the five countries met to discuss the first meeting of students in Tirgu Mures in November. At this meeting between 23-28 Novembers we will be studying the phenomenon in Mathematics, finding tasks and areas that are taught in school, creating small activities in connection with that. Making a short word list about the words and expressions students need to introduce their findings in English all partners /work is coordinated by Romania.
